Quran Gate (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use our mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

Quran Gate is designed as a focus and habit-support tool that helps users reduce distractions and build a Quran reading habit. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Services.

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with privacy rights, you may contact us using the information above for any privacy-related request.

2. Scope of This Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through:

  • the Quran Gate mobile app;
  • our website or landing pages;
  • customer support communications;
  • subscription and billing flows handled through platform providers and service providers.

It does not apply to third-party services, websites, or apps that are not controlled by us, even if they are linked from our Services.

3. Information We Collect

We collect only the information reasonably necessary to operate, improve, secure, and support Quran Gate.

A. Information You Provide to Us

We may collect information that you voluntarily provide, such as:

  • the community profile you set up in the app: a display name, and optionally a country and (if you sign in with Google) your Google profile photo;
  • posts and replies you share in the Ummah tab (du'a requests, gratitude, reflections), whether you post under your name or anonymously;
  • an email address you add to your profile, and whether you agreed to receive emails from us;
  • the first name you give when you invite friends;
  • your email address, if you contact support;
  • the contents of messages you send us;
  • any information you choose to provide in bug reports, support requests, or feedback.

B. Subscription and Transaction Information

If you purchase Quran Gate Pro or another paid feature, purchases are processed through Apple and may be managed through third-party subscription infrastructure such as RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

We may receive limited subscription-related information such as:

  • subscription status;
  • product identifier;
  • purchase or renewal events;
  • entitlement status;
  • anonymized or pseudonymous identifiers needed to validate access.

C. Usage and Analytics Information

We use Firebase and related analytics or crash-reporting tools to understand app performance and product usage. Depending on how the app is configured, this may include:

  • device and app instance identifiers;
  • app version;
  • operating system version;
  • country or broad region derived from IP or device settings;
  • language settings;
  • session activity;
  • feature interactions;
  • crash logs, diagnostics, and performance data;
  • approximate timestamps for usage events.

Reading, focus and unlock features work without signing in. An account is created only when you open the Ummah tab or use invites (see section F).

D. Focus, Reading, and App Restriction Data

To provide Quran Gate's core functionality, the app may process information related to:

  • selected focus or restriction settings;
  • Quran reading session progress inside the app;
  • whether a required reading session was completed before a user-selected unlock action.

We aim to keep this information as limited as possible.

E. Device and Technical Information

We may automatically collect technical information needed for operation, security, and debugging, including:

  • device type and model;
  • OS type and version;
  • app build/version;
  • timezone;
  • coarse diagnostic data;
  • push token, if notifications are enabled.

F. Account and Sign-In

When you first open the Ummah tab or use invites, the app creates an anonymous account (a random user ID, via Google Firebase Authentication). You can link it to Sign in with Apple or Google so it can be restored on a new phone. From that sign-in we receive:

  • Apple: your first name and email address, only the first time you authorize, if you choose to share them. The email may be an Apple private relay address. Apple does not share a photo.
  • Google: your name, email address and profile photo.

We never see your Apple or Google password. You can change your display name, country and photo choice at any time in Edit profile.

G. Community Posts and Profile

Posts and replies in the Ummah tab are visible to other Quran Gate users once they pass review. A post made under your name shows your display name, photo (if any) and country (if you chose one); an anonymous post shows none of these. Your email is never shown to other users.

Posts may reveal information about your faith, health or family. Please share only what you are comfortable making visible to others, and avoid other people's private details. Every post, reply and display name is checked automatically before it is shared (see section 7A), and may be reviewed by our team.

H. Email Communication

Giving us an email through sign-in is not consent to marketing. We send Quran reminders, Ramadan guides and app news only if you turn on the email switch in the app, which is off by default. We record when you agreed and to which wording, and you can turn it off at any time in the app or through the unsubscribe link in any email.

4. Information We Do Not Intend to Collect

We do not intentionally collect:

  • passwords: sign-in uses Apple or Google, and we never receive your password;
  • full payment card information;
  • precise GPS location;
  • personal messages, photos, or contacts unless you directly send them to support;
  • special-category personal data, unless you choose to include it in a post, reply or message to us.

Quran Gate includes religious content, but we do not use the app to infer or profile your religious beliefs beyond what is inherent in your voluntary use of the app itself.

5. How We Use Information

We use information for the following purposes:

  • to provide and maintain Quran Gate;
  • to enable app features, including focus and unlock-related functionality;
  • to verify subscription access and paid entitlements;
  • to run the Ummah community: show posts and replies, count reactions, and moderate content to keep it safe and on topic;
  • to run the invite programme and grant invite rewards;
  • to send you emails, only if you opted in to them;
  • to monitor app performance, crashes, abuse, and reliability;
  • to improve content, usability, and product decisions;
  • to respond to support requests and user feedback;
  • to comply with legal obligations;
  • to protect our rights, users, and Services.

6. Legal Bases for Processing

If you are in the EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction requiring a legal basis, we generally process personal data under one or more of the following bases:

  • Performance of a contract: to provide the app and paid features you request;
  • Legitimate interests: to secure, maintain, improve, and analyze the Services;
  • Consent: where required by law, including marketing emails, certain analytics or notifications, and any special-category information you choose to include in a post;
  • Legal obligation: where we must comply with law, regulation, or lawful requests.

7. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal data.

We may share information only in the following limited situations:

A. Service Providers

We may share information with vendors who help us operate the Services, such as:

  • hosting and infrastructure providers;
  • analytics and crash-reporting providers such as Google Firebase;
  • subscription management providers such as RevenueCat;
  • content moderation providers: the text of posts, replies and display names is sent to OpenAI (moderation API) and Anthropic (Claude) to check it before it is shared, without your email or other account details;
  • sign-in providers (Apple and Google) when you link your account;
  • customer support or email providers.

These providers may process data on our behalf subject to their own terms and applicable law.

B. Platform Providers

We may receive or share limited data with platform providers such as Apple to process subscriptions, restore purchases, operate notifications, and comply with platform rules.

C. Legal and Safety Reasons

We may disclose information if reasonably necessary to:

  • comply with law or legal process;
  • enforce our Terms;
  • detect, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, security, or technical issues;
  • protect the rights, property, or safety of users, us, or others.

D. Other Users

Approved posts and replies, and the name, photo and country shown with posts you make under your name, are visible to other signed in users of the app. People you invite see your first name.

E. Business Transfers

If Quran Gate or its assets are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

8. International Data Transfers

Quran Gate is offered globally. Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including countries that may have different data protection laws.

Where required, we take reasonable steps to use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as contractual protections or reliance on lawful transfer mechanisms offered by our vendors.

9. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to:

  • provide the Services;
  • maintain subscription records;
  • resolve disputes;
  • enforce agreements;
  • comply with legal obligations.

Community posts close and leave the feed 30 days after they are posted. Your profile, posts, replies, reactions, invite data, email and consent record are kept until you delete your account, which you can do at any time in the app (Settings → Account → Delete my account). Deletion removes them from our database.

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of data and the reason it was collected. Some analytics or diagnostic data may be retained in aggregated or de-identified form for longer.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights such as:

  • the right to access personal data we hold about you;
  • the right to request correction of inaccurate data;
  • the right to request deletion of your data (you can also delete your account directly in the app);
  • the right to object to or restrict certain processing;
  • the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • the right to data portability where applicable;
  • the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.

11. In-App Permissions and Device Controls

Quran Gate may request access to certain device-level permissions or system capabilities, depending on your platform and app configuration, such as:

  • notifications;
  • Screen Time, Family Controls, or similar focus-related permissions on Apple devices;
  • local storage for app settings and progress.

These permissions are used to provide app functionality chosen by the user. Denying some permissions may reduce or disable specific features.

12. Children and Age Requirements

Quran Gate is not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children without a lawful basis.

If you believe a child has provided personal data in violation of this Privacy Policy, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Third-Party Services

Our Services may integrate with or rely on third-party services, including Apple, Google (Firebase and Google Sign-In), RevenueCat, OpenAI and Anthropic. Their handling of data is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

15. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may provide notice through the app, website, or other appropriate means. The updated version becomes effective when posted, unless otherwise stated.
