7 Best Quran Apps for Android 2026: Free, No Ads, Offline

The Google Play Store has hundreds of Quran apps. Most have the same screenshot aesthetic — green gradients, Arabic calligraphy, a mushaf page — and wildly different quality underneath.

This guide compares the best Quran apps for Android in 2026, with no affiliate links or sponsored placements. Quran Gate is our own app; it is listed last and judged on the same criteria as the rest. Each app below is genuinely good at something specific. The question this guide answers is not "which app has the most features?" but which app is best for what you actually need — deep study, memorization, prayer utilities, or finally building a daily reading habit.

How we compared

We judged each app on five things that matter on Android: price and ads, offline reading, study tools (translations, word-by-word, tafsir), recitation and memorization features, and help with reading regularly. Ratings and download counts come from each app's US Google Play listing, checked on 31 October 2026, so you can see how other readers rate them as well as how we do.

Quick Comparison: Best Quran Apps for Android 2026

1. 📗 Quran for Android — Best Free, No-Nonsense Mushaf

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 — Best free option · Google Play: 4.7★ from 618K ratings, 50M+ downloads

Quran for Android (by quran.com) is the default recommendation for Android for a reason: it is completely free, open-source, ad-free, and maintained by the same team behind Quran.com. You get the Madani mushaf layout, dozens of translations, multiple tafsir, audio from major qaris, night mode, and full offline support.

Honest limitation: It is a reading tool, pure and simple. No habit mechanics, no streaks, no reminders beyond basic notifications. It assumes you will remember to open it — and for most people, that assumption fails within two weeks.

2. 🕌 Quran Majeed — Best All-Round Quran App

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ 4.5/5 — Best feature breadth · Google Play: 4.7★ from 1.1M ratings, 10M+ downloads

Quran Majeed (by PakData) is one of the most downloaded Quran apps in the world. It combines a beautiful mushaf with word-by-word translation, 45+ translations, tafsir, prayer times, Qibla, and khatm tracking. The Tajweed color-coding is excellent.

Honest limitation: The free tier carries ads and frequent premium prompts, and the interface is dense — there is a real learning curve. The khatm tracker exists but is passive; it records progress rather than driving it.

3. 📖 Al Quran (Tafsir & by Word) — Best for Word-by-Word Study

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 — Best for understanding the Arabic · Google Play: 4.9★ from 404K ratings, 10M+ downloads

Al Quran (Tafsir & by Word) by Greentech Apps is a gem: completely free, ad-free, and built around word-by-word translation and grammar. Tap any word to see its meaning, root, and morphology. Multiple tafsir included. For anyone trying to move from reciting Arabic to understanding it, this is the best tool on Android.

Honest limitation: Narrow focus. No prayer utilities, minimal audio features compared to others, and — like most apps on this list — no mechanism to make you open it daily.

4. 🎙️ Tarteel — Best for Memorization

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 — Best for hifz · Google Play: 4.7★ from 123K ratings, 10M+ downloads

Tarteel does something no other app on this list attempts: AI that listens to your recitation and corrects your mistakes in real time. For hifz students it is genuinely transformative — recite from memory, and Tarteel flags every slip. Spaced repetition, memorization goals, and progress dashboards round it out.

Honest limitation: If you are not actively memorizing or polishing recitation, most of Tarteel does not apply to you. For general daily reading it is overkill, and the best features are behind the premium subscription.

5. 🕋 Ayat (King Saud University) — Best Academic Option

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ 4/5 — Best for scholarly depth, completely free · Google Play: 4.1★ from 261K ratings, 10M+ downloads

Ayat, developed by King Saud University, is a fully free academic project: multiple riwayat (narrations), university-vetted tafsir, recitations from major qaris, and zero monetization of any kind. It is also available on desktop — rare among Quran apps.

Honest limitation: The interface feels dated compared to modern apps, and there are no habit features whatsoever. It is a reference tool built by academics, and it shows — in both the good and the bad sense.

6. 🌙 Muslim Pro — Best All-in-One Islamic Utility

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ 4/5 — Best utility hub · Google Play: 4.1★ from 1.9M ratings, 100M+ downloads

Muslim Pro has over 100 million downloads because it bundles everything: prayer times with adhan, Qibla compass, Hijri calendar, halal restaurant finder, and a Quran reader. As a daily Muslim utility, it has earned its position.

Honest limitation: The Quran reader is a secondary feature inside a utility app. Ads on the free tier are intrusive, and Quran reading never feels like the core experience — because it is not.

7. ⭐ Quran Gate — Best for Building a Daily Reading Habit

Our own app, so judge our score with that in mind — Best for habit building · New on Google Play in 2026, too few ratings to show yet

Every app above shares one silent assumption: that you will remember to open it, day after day, on motivation alone. Quran Gate is built on the opposite premise.

Quran Gate lets you gate your most distracting apps — Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, whatever pulls at you — so they unlock only after you complete a short Quran reading. You are not fighting your phone habit. You are redirecting it.

What that looks like on Android in 2026:

• Stories-style unlock ritual — swipe through a curated set of ayahs with a progress bar; finish and your gated app unlocks
• Sequential Quran progress — every unlock continues exactly where the last one ended, so over weeks you move through the entire mushaf without ever scheduling a "Quran session"
• Streak + widget — your reading streak lives on your home screen, with a smart evening reminder when it is at risk
• Complete Quran reader — all 114 surahs readable offline, 16 translations, recitation from 6 reciters with word-by-word highlighting, bookmarks, and Tajweed coloring
• Qibla finder, daily challenges, 90-day heatmap — the habit layer most Quran apps never build
• 7 languages, family access — one subscription covers the whole household

Honest limitations: Quran Gate is not a tafsir library (Quran for Android or Al Quran are better for study), and it does not do AI recitation correction (Tarteel owns that). Setup requires granting screen-time permissions, which takes a few minutes. It is the best app on this list at exactly one thing: making sure you actually read every day. The behavioral design behind it is covered in The Science of Habit Replacement.

Pricing: Free plan that blocks one app and includes the full Quran reader. Premium (unlimited apps, categories and websites) starts with a 7-day free trial, then a simple monthly or annual subscription that covers your whole family.

The Verdict

Every app on this list is good software. But there is a reason most Muslims have three Quran apps installed and still do not read daily: reading tools do not create readers. Habits do.
