On iPhone, app blockers use Apple's Screen Time framework. Android works differently — and that changes both what a Quran app blocker can do and how you set it up. How Quran App Blockers Work on Android
A Quran app blocker has one job: when you open a distracting app past your limit, put the Quran in front of you instead. On Android that needs three system permissions:

Google requires apps that use the Accessibility Service for blocking to disclose it on their Play Store listing, as Quran Gate does. In Quran Gate these permissions are used on-device only to detect and block — no screen content is read or collected.

How to Set Up Quran Gate on Android
- Install Quran Gate from Google Play and go through the short setup — your reading goal and translation.
- Choose the apps to block. Pick the ones that eat your day: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, games. The free plan blocks one app; Premium adds unlimited apps, categories and websites.
- Set your time limit — anywhere from 5 to 120 minutes. Start honest; 30 minutes is a good first setting.
- Grant the three permissions when asked: Usage Access, Display Over Other Apps, and the Accessibility Service. For the last one, on the settings screen tap Installed apps (or Downloaded apps), tap Quran Gate, switch it on and tap Allow.
- That's it. When your time runs out, opening a blocked app brings up Quran Gate instead. Read your portion — Stories-style, continuing exactly where you left off — and your apps unlock for another round.
If blocking stops working
Some Android phones (Xiaomi, Samsung, Huawei, Oppo and others) close background services to save battery. If Quran Gate stops blocking:
- Check Settings → Accessibility → Installed apps → Quran Gate is still on.
- Set Quran Gate's battery usage to "Unrestricted" (or exclude it from battery optimisation).
- Keep the app installed and signed in — clearing its data resets the permissions.
