We shipped a lot. This update touches almost every part of the app — new features that make your Quran habit deeper, and fixes that make the experience smoother. Here's everything that changed.
🧭 Qibla Finder
Finding the Qibla used to mean opening a separate app. Not anymore.
Quran Gate now has a full Qibla compass built right in — accessible from the dashboard and Settings. Point your phone and the animated needle locks on, a soft glow lights up the moment you're aligned, and a haptic buzz confirms it without you needing to stare at the screen.
It also shows your current city and country, so you know the bearing is calculated for your actual location — not a default coordinate.
Whether you're in a hotel room, a new city, or a friend's place — you'll always know exactly where to face. 🕋
📖 Unlock Ritual — Now a Stories-Style Reader
The unlock ritual has been completely redesigned.
Instead of a single ayah, you now swipe through a curated set of ayahs — like Instagram Stories, but for your Quran practice. A progress bar at the top tracks where you are. Your reading time is counted. And when you finish:
- 🎉 Confetti drops
- 📤 A shareable completion card generates — screenshot-ready to share with your community
This turns every phone unlock into a brief but complete reading session, not just a quick glance at one line.
📚 Sequential Quran Progress — Every Unlock Picks Up Where You Left Off
This one changes everything about how the app works.
Previously each ritual showed a random or repeated ayah. Now the mushaf position advances across every ritual. Unlock your phone at 9am → you read Surah Al-Baqarah 1–5. Unlock at noon → you continue from verse 6.
Over days and weeks, you move through the Quran continuously — not by sitting down for a dedicated session, but through the habit of unlocking your phone. It's slow, intentional progress built into your existing routine.
If you want to understand the psychology behind why this approach works, read The Science of Habit Replacement.
📲 Streak Widget — Now Shows Your Reading Streak
Your home screen widget now displays your current reading streak front and center.
And it's proactive: if you haven't read by 6pm and you have a streak to protect, the widget surfaces a timely reminder. No buried notification — visible the moment you glance at your home screen.
🌙 Daily Ayah — 3× Per Day, Aligned to Prayer Times
The Daily Ayah used to refresh once at midnight. Now it changes three times a day:
| Time | Prayer Window |
|---|---|
| 4:00 AM | Fajr |
| 12:00 PM | Dhuhr |
| 8:00 PM | Isha |
A fresh ayah for each part of your day — morning clarity, midday reminder, evening reflection.
🛠️ Quality-of-Life Fixes
🌍 Daily Ayah Respects Your Language
Previously the Daily Ayah always showed English translation regardless of your language setting. Fixed — it now shows translation in your chosen language.
📥 Translation Switching Now Works
Switching your Quran translation in Settings previously failed to save the downloaded text. Fixed — translations now download and cache correctly when you switch.
🎨 Tajweed Coloring Fixed
Several Tajweed rules — including silent letters and idgham variants — appeared uncolored due to API naming mismatches. These are now fixed across the board, so the coloring is accurate and complete.
⚙️ Translation Picker Visible to All Users
The translation picker in Settings was hidden behind an internal flag and invisible to most users. It's now always visible — everyone can choose their preferred translation.
📜 Jump Index for Long Surahs
In the Surah reader, long surahs like Al-Baqarah (286 ayahs) now have a drag index rail on the right side. Drag to jump anywhere instantly — no more endless scrolling to find a verse.
🔄 Onboarding Resumes Where You Left Off
If you quit mid-onboarding, the app now brings you back to the exact screen you left — not the beginning. No re-entering information, no frustration.
📶 Onboarding Handles No-Internet Gracefully
Previously, if your connection dropped during onboarding, the Quran download silently failed with no feedback. Now the app surfaces a clear "Try Again" prompt so you know what happened and can retry.
Why This Update Matters
Every one of these changes moves toward the same goal: making your Quran habit as frictionless and meaningful as possible.
The Stories ritual, sequential progress, and streak widget work together — they turn every phone unlock into a moment of intentional engagement with the Quran, and they make your progress visible and real.
